Approach

Doual'art, the Goethe-Institut, and the Musée National du Cameroun, three organizations dedicated to promoting the collective ownership of the country's history and making it a heritage for everyone, oversees the project from its inception to its outcome.

Restoring the memory of these first frontiers that defined a territory called Kamerun is paramount. The project recognizes that the younger generation has little knowledge of these events and lacks the necessary tools to comprehend them. Furthermore, they have lost their sovereignty in the face of the global economy.

During the first 30 years (1884-1914), Cameroon underwent significant structural changes that altered each community comprising the country's population. The project aims to highlight this profound impact on Cameroon.

These changes abruptly broke their ancestral ways of life, social and economic structures, land management, and spirituality, creating an identity crisis and self-image issues about the world.

At this stage, the Cameroon Ministry of Culture has expressed its support for the ongoing project through the voice of its primary host, Pierre Ismaël Bidoung Kpwatt. The German government has also expressed interest in the project, with Katja Keul, Vice-Minister for Foreign Affairs of the Federal Republic of Germany, responsible for Africa and Culture, mentioning the possibility of this exhibition during her first trip to Cameroon in October-November 2022.
